We wanted to get to know Dr Steve Harris, CEO at eta College, where it all began and his journey leading eta College to where it is today. Check out the questions we asked him below, prepare to feel inspired!
Q: What is your title at eta College?
A: CEO of eta College
Q: What is your role at eta College?
A: Make eta College successful and significant in the present and the future. This means it is sustainable and makes a difference. I ensure that there are energy gains in the organization and address energy losses. I find the resources to make this happen, create buy-in from stakeholders, keep the organisation on an even keel and overcome obstacles to this commitment.
Q: How long have you been involved with eta College?
A: Since 1996
Q: What led you to completing your PhD?
A: A discussion with the late Professor Paul Avis Head of Sports at UWC. He challenged me to get to know “what you don’t know” about Mental Toughness (a favorite topic of mine). I agreed I should and Avis became my PhD supervisor
Q: What would you say has been your greatest accomplishment?
A: I do not think any of my “accomplishments” have been great. I constantly strive for improvement in my pursuit for success and significance. I am mindful (but I suspect not enough) of living in the present without energy losses through dwelling on the past or yearning for the future
Q: What is your favourite quote?
A: I live in an “and” world as opposed to an “either or” world
Q: What books have you written?
A: One on mental toughness which has had three new editions and a novel “Impimpi”
Q: What’s eta’s company culture?
A: It’s an energetic, fun academic organisation that walks its talk
Q: What does success look like for you?
A: A sustainable life, which is both successful and significant
