Start your fitness career on a strong foundation. This in-depth certification will give you the knowledge and skill to design and teach various training methods to suit the individual or groups. You will learn to use music as an effective instructional and motivational tool during a choreographed resistance-based programme and High Intensity Interval (HIIT) bootcamp session.
This programme is registered on the NQF at level 4 and is 15 credits. It is quality assured by CATHSSETA as mandated by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). The programme is delivered through mixed-mode which combines contact workshops and seminars with self-study. The duration of this learning programme is approximately six weeks. Students can also study through eta Distance Learning.
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to exercise training
• Design and instruct High Intensity and Resistance Based programmes to individuals and groups.
This course will give you the knowledge and skills to work as a Group Exercise Instructor (Resistance, HIIT and Bootcamp) in a range of fitness or leisure facilities. The course provides you with up to date and well-researched principles of exercise science along with practical learning that will provide you the knowledge and skills to take up work as a Group Exercise Instructor immediately.
Module 1: Anatomy and physiology for Exercise Instructors (ANIN). Unit Standard: Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Module 2: Exercise to Music: Resistance, HIIT (High Intensity Interval), and Bootcamp (EXRB). Unit Standard: Lead and instruct exercise programmes for individuals and groups to music.
There are no admission criteria to the programme but it is assumed that an applicant is able to: collect and use written information; communicate clearly with colleagues, clients or members of a facility; compile and write work-related reports.
