The learning programme is delivered through a mixed-mode that combines contact workshops and seminars with self-study. The duration of this learning programme is approximately four months. Students can also study through eta Distance Learning.
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to exercise training
• Recommend an exercise programme or fitness activity to facility members
• Supervise the use of a fitness facility and its equipment
• Instruct exercise to individuals and groups
This course will give you the knowledge and skills to work as a Fitness Instructor in a range of fitness facilities, gyms or equipment-based environments. The course provides you with up-to-date and well-researched principles of exercise science, along with practical learning that will provide you with the knowledge and skills to work as a Fitness Instructor.
Module 1: Anatomy and physiology for Exercise Instructors (ANIN)
Module 2: Exercise screening and preparation (EXPR)
Module 3: Fitness facility orientation and supervision (FISU)
Module 4: Leading exercise sessions (LESE)
There are no admission criteria to the programme, but it is assumed that an applicant is able to: collect and use written information; communicate clearly with colleagues, clients or members of a facility; compile and write work-related reports.
