Additional Information

This qualification is registered on the NQF at level 4 and is 15 credits. It is quality assured by CATHSSETA as mandated by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). The programme is delivered through mixed-mode which combines contact workshops and seminars with self-study. The duration of this learning programme is approximately six weeks. Students can also study through eta Distance Learning.

On completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to exercise training
• Instruct Aerobics classes

This course will give you the knowledge and skills to work as a Group Exercise Instructor in a range of fitness or leisure facilities. The course provides you with up to date and well-researched principles of exercise science along with practical learning that will provide you the knowledge and skills to take up work as Group Exercise Instructor immediately.

Module 1: Anatomy and physiology for Exercise Instructors (ANIN). Unit Standard: Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Module 2: Exercise to Music: Aerobics, Step and Tone (EXCY). Unit Standard: Lead and instruct exercise programmes for individuals and groups to music.

There are no admission criteria to the programme but it is assumed that an applicant is able to: collect and use written information; communicate clearly with colleagues, clients or members of a facility; compile and write work-related reports.
