Higher Certificate in Sports, Recreation and Fitness Management

This one year vocational programme gives  students the vital knowledge and skills  needed to embark on a career in the world of sport, recreation or fitness management. You will learn the basics of managing a sport or recreation organisation and how to implement events. You will also acquire knowledge about sport informatics and sport sociology, each giving insight into the  world of sport and recreation and the social context in which it functions. This programme gives you the knowledge and skills needed to enter the world of sport and recreation management.

The Higher Certificate in Sport, Recreation and Fitness Management qualifies you to work in the field of sport, sport management and sport administration. As a graduate you will be able to work in schools, in sport clubs or in private institutions; in a range of areas which include but are not limited to sport events, sports, recreation and fitness facility management, single and/or multi-sport clubs, sport team management and community based sport development and mass participation programmes

During this learning programme, you learn about the principles of good governance in sport organisations to support operational sustainability; how to plan, coordinate, and ensure safety in the implementation of sport tournaments and/or events; business, finance management and operations in a sport organization; social development programmes through sport and how to promote athletes and manage media. To gain confidence while they are learning, students complete a range of practical hours through work-based learning

Business Management of Sport, Recreation and Fitness:
Sport, Recreation and Fitness Business Organisations: Get to understand the principles of business and financial management as well as marketing and its relationship to sport, recreation and fitness. Learn how to write marketing strategies, understand business strategies and how to operate a business.
Sport, Recreation and Fitness Facilities: Learn how to apply financial strategies and planning to different sport environments. The module includes budgeting, management of funds and revenue strategies and the application of good governance.
Event and Project Management of Sport, Recreation and Fitness:
Events and Tournaments for Sport, Recreation and Fitness: Always an exciting industry to be in; this module will teach you how to plan, implement and manage a range of small sport events, manage volunteers and risk.
Mass Participation Programmes: Learn about the principles of mass participation, different sport activities and how to activate groups and communities into sport.
Team management and Touring Logistics: Understand the logistics and management of sport tours as well as the principles of sport tourism and strategies.
Sport sociology:
Introduction to Sport sociology: This is an introductory module that explains how sport interacts with society. You will get an overview of sport sociology, social interaction and sport, as well as social issues and the effect on sport. You can apply this knowledge to sport and recreation studies, human resource management, sport development programmes and management of sport.

The minimum recommended requirement for admission is the National Senior Certificate (NSC), elementary achievement (30-39 %). Recommended: Minimum of 40% in English
