July University Sport South Africa National Tournament Results
The dates of 30th of June to the 4th of July marked a period in the 2025 academic calendar the eta Sport Department deployed four groups of students to represent our institution in the July University Sport South Africa (USSA) National Tournament. Following a successful first year back as affiliates of the sporting body considered a custodian of sport within the realm of tertiary institution sport, we had ambitions to continue with setting the proverbial bar high, which will continue to establish us as the premier institution, not only as a provider of sport education, but also as a prime producer of high-performance athletes nationwide.
The following sports teams were deployed:
1.Netball
2.Hockey (Men and Women)
3.15s Rugby
USSA Netball Results
The netball ladies had a good week performing in Gqeberha, achieving 6th overall position in the C Premier Division of the tournament, and although the overall goal of being promoted into the B section was not achieved, as a second-year performer, there was major improvement lending itself to the comprehensive preparation made by both athletes and technical staff.
The eta Netball team is proud of the victories achieved over teams that have been regularly fixtured in the tournament. Wins over the University of Mpumalanga, Rhodes University and the Central University of Technology Welkom Campus. Unfortunately, with a loss against the North West University Mahikeng Campus kept the ladies out of playoff contention and thus could not acquire promotion into the Super C Division.
USSA Hockey Results
Both men and women competed winning their sections decisively. Being declared winners of USSA Hockey Section C they have now been promoted to the B section for the 2026 National Tournament.
Notable achievements include eta Student Athletes achieving first position in both women’s and men’s competitions with each also achieving player and goalkeeper of the tournament honors to further attest to our dominance within the C Section.
The Ladies Hockey Team had a record making tournament as the first team in USSA Hockey history to finish a tournament without conceding a goal.
USSA Rugby Results
eta Rugby faced (in order) the North West University Vaal Campus, North West University Mahikeng Campus and the University of Johannesburg Invitational team with the winner being promoted from Section B2 to Section B1 of the competition
eta Rugby was then declared the winner of Section B2 and was promoted to Section B1 for the year 2026
As we continue with the academic and sporting calendar, we remain proud of our athletes’ strides in ensuring that our institution acquires national recognition. As the year proceeds, we also look forward to the results that will be submitted in the Spring and Summer USSA competition
